    6. DISMANTLING INTO BASIC MODULES BASIC MODULES 6.1. BASIC MODULES This chapter shows how the WSC40 is built up of the basic modules flush guards, saw bar, gear box, and gear box seating. The purpose is to illustrate how you can easily and effectively dismantle and assemble the WSC40 into its basic modules.
  • Page 13 Dismantling into basic modules 6.2. DISMANTLING THE SAW BAR DISMANTLE 1. Turn the saw adaptor upside down to access the centred screw on the back side, that holds the bar in position. Clean the screw head thorouly using a screwdriver. CLEAN THE SCREW HEAD THOROUGLY 2.
  • Page 14 Dismantling into basic modules 4. Place the saw adapter on a solid support with the transmisson cover facing up. 5. Unscrew the protective cover knob and remove the transmission cover. REMOVE THE COVER 6. Clean the two screw holes in the bar plate to facilitate a clean fit of the Allen key to the screw heads.
  • Page 15 Dismantling into basic modules 8. Knock each screw head slightly with a centrer punch and a hammer to facilitate unscrewing. KNOCK THE SCREW HEADS GENTLY WITH A PUNCH 9. Unscrew the screws in the bar plate using an Allen key. Remove the bar plate. UNSCREW THE SCREWS IN THE BAR PLATE 10.
  • Page 16 Dismantling into basic modules 11. Tilt the front end of the bar with one hand, to get a grip on the rear end with the other hand. Remove the bar by lifing it uppwards. 12. Remove the chain. REMOVE THE BAR AND CHAIN ASSEMBLE 13.
  • Page 17 Dismantling into basic modules 16. Tighten the two screws in the bar plate with a tightening torque of 20 Nm. TIGHTEN THE SCREWS WITH APPROPRIATE TORQUE 17. Fit the chain around the bar and the drive wheel. This step can be facilitated by having the chain tension adjustment screw is in its most released position.

    Repair instructions 7. REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS 7.1. REPLACING THE BAR AND CHAIN 1. Dismantle the bar and chain according to the instructions given in chapter 6.2 step 1 - 12. 2. Replace the worn bar and chain with new ones. 3. Add grease in the centre hole at the tip of the bar to prevent oxidation.
  • Page 21 Repair instructions 4. Knock the head of the centre bolt in the drive wheel slightly with a centre punch and a hammer. KNOCK THE CENTRE BOLT WITH A PUNCH 5. Use an Allen key to unscrew the centre bolt of the drive wheel fully.
  • Page 22 Repair instructions 7.3. REPLACING THE INLET PIPE FOR COOLING WATER 1. Dismantle the gear box from the saw adaptor according to the instructions given in chapter 6.2 and 6.3. 2. Unscrew all M6-screws holding the gear box plate in position, and remove the gear box plate.
  • Page 23 Repair instructions REMOVE THE GEAR BOX ASSEMBLY 4. Replace the inlet pipe with a new one, if needed. Apply yellow Loctite on the threads of the new inlet pipe (A) as sealant. Screw the new inlet pipe by hand into the gearbox. 5.
  • Page 24 Repair instructions 7.4. REPAIRING THE CHAIN TENSION MECHANISM 1. Follow the instructions given in chapter 7.2 step 1-6 and chapter 7.3 step 1 - 3. 2. Use an Allen key to loosen the MC6S screws and remove the chain tensioners. Replace with new ones if needed.

To prevent oxidation add some Tectyl to the gear box interior before putting the gear box plate back in place NOTE!   • Page 26 Repair instructions 3. Turn the gear box upside down to drain the oil of the gear box. NOTE! Collect drained oil in a suitable container. Do not pour out in the zinc or pollute the environ- ment. REMOVE THE OIL PLUG AND DRAIN THE OIL OPEN THE GEAR BOX HOUSING 4.
  • Page 27 Repair instructions 6. To facilitate opening the gear box, flush cold water through the water inlet pipe. FLUSH COLD WATER THROUGH THE WATER INLET PIPE 7. Flush hot water on the outside of the gear box. FLUSH HOT WATER ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GEAR BOX 8.
  • Page 28 Repair instructions 9. The open gear box has all three gears positioned in the bottom part of the gear box housing. THE POSITION OF THE GEARS AND BEARINGS RELEASE THE GEARS AND REPLACE THE BEARINGS 10. Remove the O-ring gaskets. NOTE! Always replace the O-ring gaskets with new ones before assembly.
  • Page 29 Repair instructions 12. Use a universal puller of appropriate size to release the largest gear with bearing (marked B in the figure of step 9) from the gear box. REMOVE THE LARGE GEAR AND ITS BEARING 13. Use a hydraulic press tool to remove the bearing from the large gear (marked B in the figure of step 9).
  • Page 30 Repair instructions 15. Apply a M12 screw to the centre of the gear and tighten. Use a universal puller to remove the bearing from the released, middle sized gear as outlined in the picture to the right. REMOVE THE BEARING OF THE MIDDLE SIZED GEAR 16.
  • Page 31 Repair instructions 18. Install the new bearing in the large gear wheel (marked B in the figure of step 9) by using a hydraulic press. NOTE! Use a pressing cylinder (A) of the same diameter as the outside diameter of the bearing.
  • Page 32 Repair instructions INSTALL THE GEARS INTO THE GEAR BOX HOUSING 20. Put the gears with new bearings back into the gear box housing. Follow the order outlined in the picture and described below: 21. Start with the middle sized gear with new bear- ings (A).
