The DES-1228/ME features two Gigabit Ethernet Combo ports. These ports are 1000BASE-T copper ports
(provided) and Mini-GBIC ports (optional). See the diagram below to view the two Mini-GBIC port modules being
plugged into the Switch. Please note that although these two front panel modules can be used simultaneously, the
ports must be different. The GBIC port will always have the highest priority.
The Switch is equipped with SFP (Small Form Factor Portable) ports, which are to be used with fiber-optical
transceiver cabling in order to uplink various other networking devices for a gigabit link that may span great
distances.
These SFP ports support full-duplex transmissions and have auto-negotiation. Please see page 9 for a list of
supported SFP modules and WDM transceivers.
