Installation Guide
The W-AP277 is an environmentally hardened, outdoor rated, dual-radio IEEE 802.11ac Dell wireless access
point (AP). This access point uses MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) technology and other high-
throughput mode techniques to deliver high-performance, 802.11ac 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz functionality while
simultaneously supporting existing 802.11a/b/g/n wireless services. The W-AP277 access point works only in
conjunction with a Dell Networking W-Series Controller.

original packing materials. Use these materials to repack and return the unit to the supplier if needed.

  • Page 5: Pre-Installation Network Requirements

    After WLAN planning is complete and the appropriate products and their placement have been determined, the Dell controller(s) must be installed and initial setup performed before the Dell APs are deployed. For initial setup of the controller, refer to the Dell Networking W-Series ArubaOS Quick Start Guide for the software version installed on the controller.

    Identifying Specific Installation Locations You can mount the W-AP277 access point on a wall or pole. Use the AP placement map generated by Dell’s RF Plan software application to determine the proper installation location(s). Each location should be as close as possible to the center of the intended coverage area and should be free from obstructions or obvious sources of interference.
  • Page 7 The W-AP277 access point can be installed on a wall or attached to a pole using the AP-270-MNT-H1 mounting kit. NOTE: The W-AP277 access point does not ship with any mounting kit. The AP-270-MNT-H1 mounting kit is available as an accessory and must be ordered separately.

    In many countries this will require a licensed electrician to perform this operation. In Japan, this is a Certified Electrician by Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. NOTE: The W-AP277 access point does not ship with any power cables. These are available as accessories and should be ordered separately.
  • Page 9: Verifying Post-Installation Connectivity

    Provisioning parameters are unique to each AP. These local AP parameters are initially configured on the controller which are then pushed out to the AP and stored on the AP itself. Dell recommends that provisioning settings be configured via the ArubaOS Web UI only. Refer to the Dell Networking W-Series ArubaOS User Guide for details.
