This document describes the requirements and power and safety ground cable wiring instructions for systems that are equipped
with a -(48–60)V DC PowerEdge XR-series heater and -(48–60)V DC power supply. This document includes both United
States NEC and European (IEC) wire color codes for 2 wire ungrounded DC power supplies.
CAUTION:
1. This installation should only be done by a qualified licensed electrician. Do not attempt to connect DC Power
or install safety grounds yourself. All electrical wiring must comply with applicable local or national codes
and practices.
2. Once an electrician completes the installation, the power supply input plug and heater input plug can be
plugged and unplugged like a normal AC power cable. The DC power must be turned off before attempting to
plug and unplug either input plug.
3. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or
as directed by the online or telephone service and support team.
Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the
safety instructions that are shipped with your product.
4. Wire the unit with copper only (unless otherwise specified), 10 American Wire Gage (AWG) 105/30 stranded
wire rated minimum 90C in parallel for source and return.
5. Protect the -(48–60)V DC (1 wire) with a branch circuit over-current protection rated 30 A for DC with a
high interrupt current rating.
6. The heater must only be connected to a -(48-60)V DC power source classified by SELV or ES1 output in
accordance with applicable national requirements for Information Technology Equipment and complies with
IEC/UL 60950-1 and/or IEC/EN/UL 62368-1.
7. Ensure that the -(48–60)V DC source is efficiently secured to earth (ground).
8. A readily accessible disconnect device that is suitably approved and rated shall be incorporated in the field
wiring.
