USEFUL INFORMATION ON TAKING TEMPERATURE WITH THE MEDISANA FTF THERMOMETER

What is fever?
Our normal body temperature is between 36°C and 37,5°C. Fluctuations are quite normal, depending on time of day and the body's condition, for example in the female menstruation cycle. However, when body temperature rises above 38°C, the phenomenon is known as fever.
If the fever should exceed 39°C and still persist after 1 to 2 days, you should definitely contact your doctor.

Taking a temperature reading – quickly and accurately!
A fever is often associated with fatigue, pains in the limbs, shivering and chills. The course of an illness can be best monitored by taking a temperature reading 2 to 3 times a day at 4 to 6 hour intervals. Readings should always be taken at the same part of the body and approximately the same time so that the results can be compared.
The MEDISANA FTF Thermometer enables you to quickly and simply determine the current body temperature. Typical errors, such as the duration of m easurement being too short can be almost completely eliminated. A precise result is displayed after just approx. 60 seconds, and this result is stored until the next reading is taken.
Temperature readings can be taken at the following parts of the body:

  1. Under the tongue (oral)
  2. In the armpit (axillary)
  3. In the rectum (rectal)

GETTING STARTED

Inserting / removing battery:
The MEDISANA FTF high-speed thermometer is ready to use right away, as the battery is already installed in the unit. However, if the „" symbol should appear on the right of the display after the unit has been in operation for some time, you need to replace the battery. To do this, remove the battery compartment cover and lift the compartment approx. 0.5cm out of the thermometer. Use a suitable tool, e.g. the tip of a ballpoint pen, to carefully lever out the battery. Insert the new battery with the „" sign facing upwards. Push the battery compartment back into the thermometer and replace the compartment cover.

OPERATION

Taking a reading
Press the start button once to switch the unit on. All display symbols will ap-pear for approx. two to three seconds and you will hear a short tone. If the temperature is below 32°C, you will see an "L" and a flashing "°C" on the LCD display (2). The MEDISANA FTF Thermometer is now ready to take a temperature reading. Insert the tip of the sensor either orally, into the armpit or into the rectum. The thermometer will now auto- matically begin to take a reading. During the reading, the current temperature will be shown continuously. As soon as the variation in temperature is below 0,1°C in 8 seconds, you will hear a tone and the reading taken will be shown on the display . The thermometer will switch off automatically ten minutes after taking the reading. To prolong the life of the battery, however, you should switch off the thermometer manually by pressing start button once you have taken the reading.

Taking temperature readings at various parts of the body
The MEDISANA FTF thermometer is suitable for oral (in the mouth), axillary (in the armpit) and rectal (in the rectum) temperature readings. One reading takes approx. 60 seconds. To ensure safe and accurate measurement, you should take account of the following information when positioning the t hermometer:

ORAL READINGS:
Place the sensor tip of the thermometer under the tongue and close your mouth. Breathe through your nose while taking the reading in order to avoid i naccurate results.

RECTAL READINGS:
Many patients find rectal measurement uncomfortable, but it delivers precise results. Thanks to the sensor's flexible tip, the MEDISANA FTF thermometer makes measuring temperature in this part of the body much easier.
To quickly and reliably determine body temperature, carefully insert the sensor tip approx. 3,5 cm into the rectum. After approx. 60 seconds, you can read the result on the display.

ARMPIT READINGS:
Wash the armpit before taking a reading. Insert the tip of the thermometer into the armpit. Lower the arm and press it lightly against the body while the reading is being taken.

USING THE PROTECTIVE PROBE COVERS

The MEDISANA FTF Thermometer package includes 3 protective probe covers intended for single use (e.g. for rectal use). If you wish to use a protective cover, pull it gently apart on the side marked and insert the tip of the thermometer into the opening. Now hold the upper end of the protective cover tightly against the thermometer and slowly pull the paper strip and the projecting material downwards. The thermometer is now ready to use with the protective cover. After taking the reading, pull off the protective cover and dispose of it.

MEMORY FUNCTION

The MEDISANA FTF Thermometer features a memory function that enables you to recall the last reading taken. Hold the start button down for approx. three seconds when the thermometer is switched off. The last reading taken will then be displayed. The letter "M" for "Memory" will appear on the display next to the reading. The display will switch off after approx. 5 seconds.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION

The MEDISANA FTF thermometer is waterproof, making it easy to clean and disinfect. Clean the thermometer before and after each use using a cloth moistened in a mild solution containing alcohol. You may also soak the thermometer in a suitable disinfectant solution. Your dealer will be happy to recommend suitable cleaning products and give you advice on their use. Servicing and calibration (applies to commercial use):
The unit has been calibrated by the manufacturer for a period of two years' use. In the case of commercial use, the unit must be serviced and recalibrated at least once every two years. This calibration will be charged for and can be carried out by an appropriate authority or an authorised service centre - in accordance with the regulations for users of medical equipment.
