Distinguish Letters from Numbers

Letters and numbers may look alike. For example, when writing the number "1055",
differentiate your "5" from an "S" by either making the top corners of the "5"
sharper, or by writing a two-stroke "5". A two-stroke "5" may look like an "S" on
paper, but Handwriter never confuses them because an "S" is written with only one
stroke:
Distinguish a "one" from a lowercase letter "l" by placing a tail on the number.
Distinguish "+" from "t" by making the crossbar considerably longer than the
vertical stroke.

Other Tips

• Make sure that loops are fully closed. An open "g" might be recognized as a "y",
and an open "a" might be recognized as a "u".
• Handwriter recognizes normal retraces, such as you might make when writing a
"B" with a single stroke. However excessively retraced characters might not be
recognized.

Customizing Handwriter Settings

By changing its settings, you can customize Handwriter's appearance and operation.
To do this, select Recognizer Properties from the Control Panel icon. Recognizer
Properties dialog box appears with the General tab displayed. Alternately, you can
access Recognizer Properties by double-tapping the pen icon in the System Tray.

Choosing the Recognizer

In the General tab you have the option of selecting which recognizer to use.
You can select only the Recognizers that have been installed. If only Handwriter is
installed you can only select Full Character Set. If Jot is installed then you will also
have the choice of selecting either Natural Character Set or the Simplified Uppercase
Character Set. For Jot, see section 2.
Handwriter is a full context sensitive word recognizer. Jot is a character recognizer.
Jot begins recognition after each character is written. Handwriter will allow you to
write whole words or sentences before recognition.
