Naming a DOS File
If you plan
to use any of your documents
on a computer
that uses DOS,
create
a name
that DOS will recognize.
DOS names
can be up to eight
characters
long,
followed
by an optional
period
and three
more
characters.
The three
characters
or extension
usually
indicates
the type of data the file
contains.
For example,
give a .T_T extension
to a DOS text file, such
as one
created
with Text File Editor.

DOS file names can only contain the letters A through Z, the numbers 0
through
9, and only the following special characters:
