Maximum Number of Interfaces
The number of units to which IP addresses are given is called the number of
interfaces. See Table 4-34 for the maximum number of interfaces. The values shown
are for the communication interfaces and hence do not count the RM Ethernet
connection interface for the router management. In addition, the maximum number
of interfaces assumes static routing. For the case of dynamic routing such as RIP or
OSPF, the effective number of interfaces largely depends on the route calculation
performance of the subject protocol.
