Problem
The engine starts, but does
not keep running.
The engine runs, but knocks
or misses.
Possible Cause
1. The fuel tank vent is
restricted.
2. Dirt or water is in the fuel
system.
3. The fuel lter is clogged.
4. There is air in the fuel.
5. Improper fuel grade for
cold weather use.
6. The spark arrestor screen
is clogged.
7. The fuel pump is
damaged.
1. Dirt, water, stale fuel, or
incorrect fuel is in the
fuel system.
2. Engine overheating.
3. There is air in the fuel.
4. The injection nozzles are
damaged.
5. Low compression
6. The injection pump
timing is incorrect.
7. Excessive carbon
build-up.

Corrective Action
1. Loosen the cap. If the
engine runs with the cap
loosened, replace the
cap.
2. Drain and ush the fuel
system; add fresh fuel.
3. Replace the fuel lter.
4. Bleed the nozzles and
check for air leaks at fuel
hose connections and
ttings between the fuel
tank and engine.
5. Drain the fuel system
and replace the fuel
lter. Add fresh fuel of
proper grade for ambient
temperature conditions.
6. Clean or replace the
spark arrestor screen.
7. Contact your Authorized
Service Dealer.
1. Drain and ush the fuel
system; add fresh fuel.
2. Refer to Engine
Overheats.
3. Bleed nozzles and check
for air leaks at the fuel
hose connections and
ttings between the fuel
tank and engine.
