2. Connect the other end of the cable shown below to the USB
port on your computer, or USB hub.
Note:
USB cables enable you to connect the scanner whether your
computer is on or off. If you connect the scanner and turn it on while
your computer is on and the scanner software is not yet installed, a
dialog box or message prompting you to set up the device may appear
on your screen. In this case, see the EPSON TWAIN Pro
installation instructions in Chapter 3 to complete the setup
procedure.
Connect the USB cable to your computer before installing or
starting the scanner software. Do not connect or disconnect the USB
cable while the scanner software is open.
Make sure no other interface is used.

When changing the USB port in Windows 98

If you want to connect the scanner to a different USB port on your
computer or hub, you may need to remove your scanner from
your system first, depending on the version of Windows 98
installed on your computer. If Windows 98 Second Edition is
installed on your computer, you can change the USB port without
removing the scanner from the system. If your version of
Windows 98 is not the Second Edition, you need to remove and
then reinstall the scanner software in your computer as described
in "Changing the USB port" on page 2-22. For instructions on
checking your Windows 98 version, see the next section.
