Window menu item usage

You can use the IMS Window menu item to view several mix files at one time. (See
"System file types" on page 97 for a description of mix files.) This enables you to compare
the ink formulation and ∆E*

How to use the IMS graphic window

The graphic display is an a*-b* plot (see "Color space" on page 96).
The target color is represented by a plus. The outlined plus represents the desired target.
The solid plus represents the best mix, which is the best achievable approximation to the
desired target. Often, the outlined and solid pluses lie one on top of the other, implying
that the target can be achieved precisely.
The actual mixes are represented by circles. An outlined circle represents the actual mix
that is currently in the ink tank. A solid circle represents a previous actual mix.
To view the formulation of the best mix or of an actual mix, right-click on the plus or circle
on the a*-b* plot.
To zoom in on a region, click and drag the mouse on that region. To restore the default
scale, right-click on the graphic display and select Restore Default Scale.

Decreasing ink thickness

If the print quality of the sample print (compared to the target color) is poor, the thickness
of the ink layer may be too large. You can decrease the ink layer thickness as follows:

Using an old mix file for a new ink

When you open the IMS software, a new mix file opens. If one of the previously saved mix
files includes colors that are similar to the color you want to prepare, import that mix file.
From the File menu, click Import. IMS uses any relevant mixes from the old file to add
accuracy to the initial formulation of the new ink.
See "System file types" on page 97 for a description of mix files.
