removed from the appliance .
1) First of all, clean the appliance as described in
"Cleaning and Care" .
2) Briefly heat up the appliance to maximum
temperature once, keeping the lid closed .
To do this, insert the plug into the wall socket
and set the browning control 2 to level 5 .
NOTE
During first use, you may notice a slight smell
(there may also be minimal smoke) . This is
normal and dissipates after a short time .
Ensure sufficient ventilation . For instance, by
opening a window .
The red LED 1 lights up whenever the mains plug
is in the socket . The green LED 1 lights up as soon
as the appliance has heated up .
3) Pull out the plug and allow the appliance to
cool down .

Making waffles

After preparing a batter suitable for waffle makers:
1) heat the appliance with the lid closed . To do
this, insert the plug into the wall socket and turn
the browning control 2 to level 3 . The further
you turn the browning control 2 to the right,
the darker the waffles will be baked .

NOTE
If you are using a low-fat batter such as quark
batter, lightly grease the baking surfaces with
a type of margarine or oil suitable for baking .
When the green LED 1 lights up, the appliance
has heated up .
2) Spread the batter evenly on the lower baking
tray . To determine the right amount of batter for
your waffle, pour the batter on the baking sur-
faces until it just touches the edge . If necessary,
increase or reduce the amount of batter when
you cook the next batch of waffles . Make sure
that the batter does not run over the edge of
the baking trays .
Now close the lid .
3) After no less than 2 minutes, you can open the
lid to check the progress . Opening the lid any
earlier will rip the waffle .
The waffles are ready after about 3 minutes .
NOTE
As the ideal browning level depends on
personal taste and the type of batter, baking
times can vary: bake the waffles until they have
reached your preferred level of browning .
You can control the level of browning by ad-
justing the browning control 2 or the baking
time . This allows you to bake golden to crispy
brown waffles .
Be careful not to damage the non-stick coating on
the baking surfaces when you remove the waffles .
Otherwise, the waffles will be more difficult to
remove in the future .
NOTE
You do not need to re-grease the baking
surfaces before every new waffle .
4) After cooking the last waffle, remove the plug
from the power socket and allow the device to
cool down completely .
