8 How to Set Up the Access Easy Controller and the
Computer
8.1

Overview

Before an Access Easy Controller can be made operational, some basic set-up steps must be
performed. This section describes the configuration steps required to prepare the Access
Easy Controller for connection to the customer's network. It also summarizes the configura-
tion needed on a computer for the computer to be able to connect to the Access Easy Control-
ler.
Access Easy Controller Set-up
All Access Easy Controllers are shipped from the factory configured with default IP address of
129.2.0.41. Before the controller can be connected to the customer's network, its IP address
will need to be changed to fit into the customer's network configuration.
In instances where the controller is going to be connected directly to a stand-alone computer
on its own private network, the controller's default address may not need to be changed. All
that will be necessary is to configure the computer's network settings so that it has an
address on the same network as the controller
For initial setup of the Access Easy Controller, a Notebook or Desktop computer will be
required. The computer that will be used for controller setup must have a 10/100Base-T
Ethernet card installed in it, and must run a Window or Macintosh operating system. Any ver-
sion of Windows or Macintosh operating system can be used. The computer must also have a
functional Web browser program, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 4.0 and later or
Netscape Navigator, version 4.0 and later.

Configure the computer that is to be used for setting the controller's IP address so that it
has an IP address on the same 129.2.0 network as the controller. We suggest you set the
computer's IP address to 129.2.0.40, and the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0.
Connect the Access Easy Controller to the computer using a standard Cat-5 crossover
cable (Beige Cat-5 cable) as shown below.
