ENGINE ELECTRICAL

STARTER SOLENOID BENCH TEST

Test the start solenoid by powering the solenoid using
battery voltage for a maximum of 5 seconds. With the
solenoid energized at room temperature 77 °F (25 °C),
resistance should be 2.5 Ω ± 20% between terminals (A)
and (B). If resistance measurement is out of
specification, replace the starter solenoid.

STARTER MOTOR SERVICE

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Service page
2.62.
2. Remove the Intake Manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold
Service page 3.16.
3. Remove the nuts securing positive and negative
starter cables and remove the cables.
NOTICE
The negative (-) battery cable is mounted to the engine
using the upper starter mounting bolt / stud.
4. Remove the starter mounting fasteners.
5. Pull starter motor towards the driver's side to
disengage it from the engine, and remove from the
vehicle.
