The "QuickRestore" tools on your hard drive, used in
conjunction with the Recovery CD, can reinstall the software to
the state it was in when you purchased the computer. You also
have the option of restoring your computer to the way it was
when you performed the last User Backup.
Restarting your computer with the Recovery CD in the diskette
drive provides the following options:
The Emergency Diskette option creates an emergency
recovery diskette that stores the system information that
came with your computer. This diskette is necessary, if you
need to install a new image on a new hard drive, or the
current hard drive is empty and has no partitions. You cannot
reboot the system with this diskette.
The User Backup option creates a backup of the current
C drive Windows configuration. The backup is stored in
USER.PQI files on the D drive.
The User Restore option extracts the data from the
USER.PQI files on the D drive and restores the C drive to the
settings as they existed at the time of your last User Backup.
The Factory Restore option restores the computer to its
original factory condition. You will need to re-enter your
factory registration information again, and you may be
prompted to insert your emergency diskette.
The Selective Restore option allows you to select specific
Compaq drivers or applications you want to reinstall without
reformatting your hard disk.
The Exit option exits the Recovery CD.
