Shut off the machine, remove the key, and wait
for all movement to stop before you leave the
operator's position. Allow the machine to cool
before adjusting, servicing, cleaning, or storing it.
•
Do not store the machine or fuel container where
there is an open flame, spark, or pilot light, such
as on a water heater or other appliance.
Preparing the Machine for
Storage
If you wish to store the machine for a long period of
time, the following steps should be performed prior
to storage:
1. Shut off the engine, remove the key, wait for all
moving parts to stop and allow the machine to
cool before storing.
2. Remove accumulations of dirt and old grass
clippings. Sharpen the reels and bedknives, if
necessary; refer to the Cutting Unit Operator's
Manual. Use a rust preventive on bedknives and
reel blades. Grease and oil all lubrication points;
refer to Greasing the Machine (page
3. Block up the wheels to remove any weight on
the tires.
4. Drain and replace the hydraulic fluid and filter
and inspect the hydraulic lines and fittings.

5. Drain the fuel tank. Run the engine until it stops
from lack of fuel. Replace the fuel filter; refer to
Replacing the Fuel Filter (page
6. While the engine is still warm, drain the oil from
the crankcase. Refill it with fresh oil; refer to
Servicing the Engine Oil (page
7. Remove the spark plugs, pour one ounce of
SAE 30 oil into the cylinders, and crank slowly to
distribute the oil. Replace the spark plugs; refer
to Replacing the Spark Plugs (page
8. Clean dirt and chaff from the cylinder, cylinder
head fins, and blower housing.
9. Remove the battery and charge it fully; refer to
Charging the Battery (page
on the shelf or on the machine. Leave the cables
disconnected if it is stored on the machine.
Store the battery in a cool atmosphere to avoid
quick deterioration of the charge in the battery.
