What You'll Need
Hardware Requirements
You need to provide the following additional hardware to
install the NIC in your printer and connect it to your
network.
• A phillips-head screwdriver
• A Category 5 twisted pair cable with RJ-45 connectors
for 10/100Base-T Ethernet
note:
The NIC automatically detects whether you
have a 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps Ethernet connection. For
better performance, NEC recommends that you use
shielded cable and connectors when connecting to
100 Mbps Ethernet.
Software Requirements
Your workstation and network operating system should
be configured and operating correctly. Your SuperScript
870 printer drivers should already be properly installed.
Printer drivers are on the Solutions CD that comes with the
870 printer.
To use the NIC Home Page for network administration,
you need to have a web browser, such as Netscape
Navigator™ or Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Network Printing Tools On CD
NEC provides network printing tools on the 870 Network
Options CD that comes with this kit. These include
• SuperScript MAP utility for Windows 95/98, and
Windows NT 4.0 setup
• Windows IPX peer to peer software for
Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0
• Windows IP peer to peer software for
Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0
• BOOTP Lite-32 for Windows 95/98 and
Windows NT 4.0
• BOOTP Lite-16 for Windows for Workgroups
• Utilities and drivers for MacOS
• Network Utilities for UNIX
User Information On CD
User documentation is available on the 870 Network
Options CD in Adobe Acrobat
onscreen or print out, including
• This SuperScript 870 Network User's Guide (named
NICguide.pdf for Windows users, and
Network User's Guide for MacOS users).
• Read Me files

Network Options CD .
