Check o il levelbeforeeachoperation. B esureoil levelismaintained.
1.
Check t he oil withthe enginestoppedandlevel.
2.
Remove t he oil fill dipstick(G)andwipeit clean.SeeFigure 16.
3.
Insertandtightendipstick.Remove i t to check the oil level.
4.
If the oil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimit markonthe dipstick,remove
the oil filler cap/dipstick, a ndfill with the recommended o il (H)to the upper
limit mark(J).Donot overfill.
5.
Reinstall the oil fill dipstick.
ChangeEngineOil
Gasolineand its vaporsare extremely flammable andexplosive.Fireor
explosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
Change engine oilafter thefirstfivehours ofoperation, and every fifty hours or
once aseason thereafter.
Whenyou drain the oil from the top oil fill tube, the fuel tank must be
empty or fuel canleak out andresult in afire or explosion.Toempty the
fuel tank, runthe engine until it stopsfrom lackof fuel.

Withengineoff but still warm,disconnect the sparkplugwire (F)andkeepit
awayfromthe sparkplug.
2.
Place asuitablecontainer n ext to theengineto catchthe usedoil.
3.
Remove t he oil fill dipstick(E)anddrainthe o11 i nto the container b ytipping
the enginetowardthe oil filler neck.SeeFigure 1Z
Used oil is a hazardous waste product. Dispose o f usedoil properly. Donot
discardwith householdwaste. Checkwith your localauthorities or Sears
ServiceCenter f or safe disposal/recyclingfacilities.
4.
Withthe enginein alevelposition,fill to the upperlimit markonthe dipstick
with the recommended o il.
Runningthe engine with a low oil level cancauseengine damage.
5.
Reinstall the oii fill dipsticksecurely.
CleanEngine
Dailyor before everyuse,cleangrass, c haffor accumulated d ebrisfrom
engine.Keep linkage, s pring,andcontrols clean.Keep areaaroundand
behindmufflerfreeof anycombustible d ebris.
Keeping enginecleanallowsair movement a round engine.
Engine partsshouldbekeptcleanto reduce the riskof overheating a nd
ignitionofaccumulated debris.
