Belt Replacement
NOTE: Toaidin reassembly, notethe orientationofthe drivebelton the two idler
pulleys andthe engineflywheel pulleypriorto performingthe followingsteps.
Referto Figure 20.
Theedgerdrivebelt issubjectto wearandshouldbereplaced if anysigns of
cracking, s hredding or rottingarepresent. T oreplace the belt, proceed asfollows:
1.
Workinginfront of the edger, l oosenthe flangelocknut ontop of frame,
allowingthe idler pulleyassembly to pivotslightlyout from the frame.See
Figure 20.

Withyourotherhand,carefullyreach underthe rearofthe edgerandremove
the belt fromaroundthe engineflywheelpulley.SeeFigure 20.

Remove t he spindlesheaves b elt guardbyremoving the twoself-tapping
screws whichsecure it to the bladeplateassembly. SeeFigure 21.
Carefully remove the belt from off of the pulleys, a gainmakingsureto note
the orientationofthe belt. Discard the belt. SeeFigure 21.

Workingfrom the front of theedger,place the belt ontothe spindlesheaves,
routeit back ontothe top andbottomidlerpulleys, a ndthenplace it onto
the engineflywheelpulley.
NOTE: Makecertainthatthe"V" sideof the belt isseated into the top pulley
andthe flat sideofthe beltisseatedintothe bottompulley.See Figure 21.
6.
Reinstall the spindlesheaves b eltguardwith theselftappingscrews
removed earlier.
Makecertainthatthe drivebelt ison the engineflywheelpulleyandidler
pulleys, a ndretightentheflangelocknut on the top ofthe frame.
NOTE: Makecertainthatthe drivebelt isseated correctlyandthat it isriding
smoothlyonthe spindlesheaves a ndis not pinched betweenthem. Repeat
the first threesteps if the belt ispinched.
Neveroperatethe edgerwithout the spindlesheaves belt guard in place.
