 Sending a Fax
It is possible to begin typing the number on the keypad without first selecting fax mode. The printer automatically switches to fax mode when the third digit is
entered on the keypad.
Temporary changes to the following fax attributes override the default settings previously entered in the Fax Default menu.

Adjusting the Document Resolution

Set the default fax resolution value.
Select the fax contrast value.
Set the number of times the printer rings before answering an incoming call.
Set fax/tel ring time in seconds.
Ans/Fax mode: The printer can share one telephone line with an answering machine. In this mode, the printer may
monitor the fax signal and pick up the line if there are fax tones.
 
NOTE:
If local phone communication is serial, this mode is not available.
Fax/Tel: Receive a fax by picking up the handset of the extension phone not directly connected to the back of the
printer and then pressing the remote receive code, or picking up the handset of the extension phone directly
connected to the back of the multi-function printer and pressing Start (u), or accessing Fax On Hook Dial Yes when
the bell is ringing (audible voice or fax tones from the remote machine) and then pressing Start (u) on the operator
panel.
Fax mode (automatic receive mode): The printer answers an incoming calls and automatically selects receive mode.
The number of rings before the printer answers can be set in the Rings to Answer option. If the user memory is full,
the printer can no longer receive incoming faxes. Removing data stored in the memory to resume (see
Memory).
Tel mode (manual receive mode): Manual receive mode is enabled when automatic fax reception is turned off.
Set the redial interval. The printer automatically redials a remote fax machine if it is busy.
Set the redial settings if a remote fax machine is busy.
Set the printer to produce a report showing the status of the fax transmission, the number of pages transmitted, and
other details.
On: A report is produced to confirm fax transmission.
Off: No reports are produced.
On-Err: A report is only produced after receiving an error alert.
On-Err + Image: A report is only produced after receiving an error alert while loading an image.
On + Image: A report is produced after loading an image.
When receiving a documents larger than the paper size in the paper tray, the printer can reduce the size of the
document to fit the size of the paper loaded in the printer.
Off: The document is divided and printed actual size on two or more pages.
On: The machine automatically reduces the incoming document.
Enable or disable Transmit Terminal Identification (TTI)
The Receive Code Enables fax reception from an extension phone plugged into the extension telephone socket on the
back of the printer. If you pick up the extension phone and hear a fax tone, enter the Receive Code. See

for more information about using the code.
