Caller ID

Description
A properly equipped system supports Caller ID, a service offered by the network telephone service
provider. The CO sends calling number information to the system after the first ring. Users with
display telephones can see Caller ID information as incoming calls ring at their extension. They can
also access previous calls via the Caller ID Call Log feature. The Caller ID number is recorded in
SMDR.
With Version 5.0, the caller name (if available) can be displayed for a calls received from an
ISDN PRI line (ISDN / PRI NI II standard only).
Prior to Version 5.10, when a call was placed from an extension over a PRI line, the Caller ID
information reported out for that call included the main telephone number area code and office code
and the related subscriber number. However, DIDs directed to an extension may have a different
office code assigned (usually the area code would be the same). This could cause a problem in
reporting the correct direct dial numbers. To avoid this problem, either the system was programmed
using the MSN function (FF1 4 0 7 and FF1 4 0 8) to send the complete office code and subscriber
number (up to 50 telephone numbers) or in most cases the system was directed to instead send the
main telephone number for all calls.
Beginning with Version 5.10, new program settings make it possible to provide Caller ID information
that identifies the PRI DID number for the extension placing the call, whether the call is to an analog
phone or to another PBX. This is shown in Figure 3-1.
