Step 5: REMOVING YOUR OLDER DEVICE (IF NECESSARY)
Consult your computer's documentation regarding the removal of the device you
are replacing with your 72X or 62X TrueX™ CD-ROM Drive. Usually the device
will be attached to all appropriate cabling and mounted with screws.
SHORT CUT: If you are upgrading from a previous EIDE CD-ROM drive or
another EIDE device, make sure to note your older device's MASTER/SLAVE
setting and note the EIDE, power and audio cables that you disconnect. By doing
this, you can install your new 72X or 62X TrueX™ CD-ROM Drive with the same
setting and connections, and potentially save yourself considerable time during
the final installation steps.
Step 6: CONFIGURING YOUR MASTER/SLAVE JUMPER
As we discussed in Section 2, you need to set your MASTER/SLAVE/CSEL jumpers
properly so your computer can communicate with your new CD-ROM drive.
For optimal performance, Kenwood recommends that you install your TrueX Drive
as MASTER on the Secondary IDE channel.
The following table lists the configurations you will most likely encounter, and
the consequent way to set the jumpers on your 72X or 62X TrueX™ CD-ROM
Drive in each case:
