Introduction Introduction The RUGGEDCOM RX1500 is a cost-efficient, rugged Layer 3 switch and router. The RX1500’s modular and field replaceable platform can be equipped with WAN, serial, and Ethernet options, making it ideally suited for electric power utilities, the industrial plant floor, and traffic control systems.

The serial console port provides access to ROX II's console interface, while the management port provides access to ROX II's console and Web interfaces.
Siemens also does not recommend using copper Ethernet ports to interface with devices in the field across distances that could produce high levels of ground potential rise (i.e. greater than 2500 V), during line-to-ground fault conditions.

The RJ-45 and M12 connectors are directly connected to the chassis ground on the device and can accept CAT-5 shielded twisted-pair (STP) cables.

RUGGEDCOM RX1500 Chapter 3 Installation Guide Communication Ports Section 3.2 Fiber Optic Ethernet Ports Fiber optic Ethernet ports are available with either MTRJ (Mechanical Transfer Registered Jack), LC (Lucent Connector), SC (Standard or Subscriber Connector) or ST (Straight Tip) connectors. Make sure the Transmit (Tx) and Receive (Rx) connections of each port are properly connected and matched to establish a proper link.
