3 Maintaining Control Modules

A PS4000 array includes one or two hot-swappable control modules. One
functioning control module is required for array operation. You access control
modules from the rear of the array.

Control Modules

A PS4000 array includes either two Type 8 or two Type 9 control modules.See
Figure 3-1 and Figure 3-2.
Each control module includes:
Two Gigabit iSCSI Ethernet ports for iSCSI or management traffic
One 10Mb/100Mb management port (for use only if you configure a
management network)
One serial connector (for use if there is no network access to the array)
A firmware card running the PS Series firmware. In a Type 8, it is a compact
flash card. In a Type 9, it is a micro SD card.
Cache and NVRAM batteries are not field replaceable. For information about
replacing a cache or NVRAM battery, contact your PS Series service provider.
Only one control module is active (serving network traffic) at one time. The
secondary (redundant) control module mirrors cache data from the active control
