Intrinsic Safety
Protection where a circuit is designed such that it will not create a spark or other condition
capable of causing ignition of flammable vapors or gases, even under fault conditions.
Liquid Injection Valve (LIV)
A specialized valve that can inject a liquid sample into a heated chamber in order to vaporize
the sample for analysis. Usually employs a separate heating element to achieve the
temperatures required for vaporization.
Maintenance Panel (also called Human Machine Interface, or HMI)
An LCD monitor and keypad device mounted on the front door of the Maxum II electronics
enclosure. The Maintenance Panel allows a user located at the Maxum II site to interface to
the Maxum II software. It is possible to perform most maintenance and operation tasks using
the Maintenance Panel.
Methanator
A device used to convert carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (CO
methane (CH
Modular Oven
One of three primary types of oven available for the Maxum II. Modular Ovens operate using
pre‑constructed Application Modules which are connected to a manifold in the Modular Oven.
The Heating of the Application Modules in the Modular Oven is accomplished by heat transfer
from heating elements imbedded in the manifold.
Non-Incendive
A circuit which is designed such that, in normal operation, it is not capable of igniting flammable
vapors or gases. Similar to "intrinsic safety", this term is applicable to the CSA standard. The
ATEX term for this concept is non-sparking.
Non-Sparking
A circuit which is designed such that, in normal operation, it is not capable of igniting flammable
vapors or gases. Similar to "intrinsic safety", this term is applicable to the ATEX standard. The
CSA term for this concept is non-incendive.
Oven Compartment
The bottom area of a Maxum II that houses the ovens. Depending on the configuration of the
Maxum II, this may be a Modular Oven Compartment or an Airbath/Airless Oven Compartment.
