Option 3: Large room or multiple-printer configuration

Generally, HP recommends that printers be installed in small rooms. Installing printers in small, dedicated spaces
allows for easier management of heating and cooling requirements, noise isolation, and control of particulate
spread. However, some facilities may require that printers be installed into larger spaces, or that multiple printers
be installed in a shared space. Although 10 air changes per hour are still recommended, HP understands that this
may not be feasible in spaces larger than 90 m³.
For each printer installed, HP strongly recommends adding at least a local HVAC return/exhaust duct with a
minimum of 4.25 m³/min (150 ft³/min) capacity within 2 m (6 ft 7 in) of the printer to manage odors or
installing a dedicated exhaust hood over each printer. In some cases, additional flow may be required to
maintain operator comfort.
For each printer installed, 6 kW of cooling must be provided to maintain operating temperatures. If
dedicated lamp exhaust ducting is provided as shown above, this may be reduced to 2.5 kW per printer.
An optional muffler accessory may be added to each printer to reduce noise from the lamp exhaust.
