6.12 Valve clearance
6.12.1 To examine/adjust the valve clear-
ance
1. Remove the head cover bolt (A), the head cover (B),
and the head cover packing (C).
2. Disconnect the spark plug cap (D) from the spark
plug (E).

3. Set the piston near top dead centre of the cylinder
compression stroke (both valves fully closed) by
pulling the recoil starter slowly.
4. Insert a thickness gauge (F) between the valve
rocker arm (G) and valve stem (H) to measure the
valve clearance.

6.12.2 To adjust the valve clearance
1. Hold the rocker arm pivot (J) and loosen the pivot
adjusting nut (K).
2. Turn the rocker arm pivot (J) to obtain the specified
clearance.
3. Hold the rocker arm pivot (J) and retighten the pivot
adjusting nut (K).
4. Check the head cover packing (C) for damage or
deterioration, and install it to the head cover (B).
Attach the cylinder head cover (B) to the cylinder
head, and tighten the head cover bolt (A) securely.
