7.1 General troubleshooting
The different faults which may occur on the product are
divided into four groups. Within each group
possible operating faults are listed to the left while the
probable fault alternatives are listed to the right. The
most likely fault is listed first, etcetera.
Engine does not start
Possible problem
Action
Fuel valve OFF
Move fuel valve lever to ON
position.
Choke open
Move choke lever to CLOSED
position unless engine is warm.
Ignition switch OFF
Turn ignition switch to ON.
Out of fuel.
Refuel.
Bad fuel pump
Drain fuel tank and carburetor.
stored without
Refuel with fresh gasoline.
treating or drain-
ing gasoline, or
refueled with bad
gasoline.
Spark plug faulty,
Gap or replace spark plug.
fouled, or improp-
erly gapped.
Spark plug wet with

No pump output
Possible problem
Pump is placed

places.
Pump not primed.
Hose collapsed, cut
or punctured.
Strainer not com-
pletely underwater.
Air leak at connec-

Strainer clogged.
Strainer damaged.
Excessive head.
Engine lacks power.
Low pump output
Possible problem
Pump is placed on inap-
propriate places.
Hose collapsed, dam-
aged, too long, or diam-
eter too small.
Air leak at connector.
Strainer clogged.
Strainer damaged.
Hose damaged, too long,
or diameter too small.
Marginal head.
Engine lacks power.
Troubleshooting
Action
Place the pump on a firm, level
surface.
Prime pump.
Replace suction hose.
Sink the strainer and the end
of the suction hose completely
underwater.
Replace sealing washer if miss-
ing or damaged. Tighten hose
connector and clamp.
Clean debris from strainer.
Replace strainer.
Relocate pump and or hoses to
reduce head.
Action
Place the pump on a firm,
level surface.
Replace suction hose.
Replace sealing washer
if missing or damaged.
Tighten hose connector
and clamp.
Clean debris from strainer.
Replace strainer.
Replace discharge hose.
Relocate pump and or
hoses to reduce head.
