To Use Rechargeable Batteries <Fig. 2>
The rechargeable battery should be charged before it is used the first time and when it has
not been used for a long period of time {more than 3 months).
(1) Open the main unit battery cover.
(2) Insert the supplied rechargeable battery (NB-6) in the correct position. The batteries will not be
connected if the direction is mistaken.
(3) Close the battery cover,
Household AC Operation <rig. 3>
Connect the supplied AC adaptor plug to the DC jack of the battery case and plug the adaptor into
a househald AC outlet.
* Make sure there are no cry cell batteries in the battery case before carrying out AC operation.
* When the batteries are attached to the main unit or the AC adapter connected, the main unit
may operate once but that is not a malfunction.
To Recharge <Fig. 3>
Attach the battery case to the main unit, connect the AC adaptor to the battery case, and then
recharge. Approximately three hours of play are possible with 5 hours of recharging. Recharging
can also be done while listening to music using household AC current.
* Make sure there are no dry cell batteries in the battery case before recharging.
*« Please do not charge for more than 12 hours, in order to prevent overcnarging.
* Rechargeable batteries have a useful fife of approximately 300 recharges.
When the batteries are nearly exhausted
The OPE/BATT indicator becames dim. Also, sound becomes stable, noise increases and malfunc-
tions such as tape reversal in the middle of playback occurs. In such a case, recharge the batteries
or replace with new batteries. (The "KENWOOD" indication on the remote control unit blinks be-
fore the batteries get completely exhausted.)
When Using on Dry Cell Battery <Fig. 4>
Use the supplied battery case.
® Open the battery case cover and install one 'AA' (LR-6, SUM-3, R6P) size battery with the ® and
© poles correctly oriented.
® Close the battery cover, attach the battery case to the main unit with the connectors aligned, and
tighten the attachment screws firmly.
To use for a longer time
By using the attached rechargeable battery in fully-charged status and commercial new alkaline dry cells
together, it is possible to play tapes continuously for about 12 hours.
Caution:
« If you do not plan to power the CP-J7 for a month or longer with the batteries, make sure you take
them out of the compartment. This is to safeguard a against leakage. If you find that the batteries
have leaked, wipe the inside well with a soft cloth, and then replace with new batteries.
¢ If you do not intend to use the CP-J7 for a long time, remember to disconnect the AC adaptor from
the outlet.
¢ When using batteries to power the CP-J7; always disconnect the AC adaptor plug from the DC jack.
Otherwise, battery operation will not be possible.
