As shown in Figure 1-1, the TRICK may be connected to one or two mobile radios, depending upon the application. The TRICK also provides an interface for a wire line controller, such as the Motorola Centro Plus, which supports the Motorola Tone Remote Control (TRC) signalling protocol. -

1.1.1 Single Radio/Dual Radio Operation As described in the Introduction, the ENLN4056 (TRICK) is capable of interfacing to either one or two mobile radios. Single radio application is limited to base station operation. In this configuration all signals and logic commands are routed to a single radio from a single connector on the TRICK. - Page 7 Functional Description The 5 tone decoders in the TRICK will only decode received telegrams if the Valid Audio signal is present (ie if PL is used with 5 tone signalling decoding occurs only when PL is present). Using the RSS, it is possible to vary the duration of the tones which make up the encode and decode telegrams.
- Page 8 The ability to change channels using the parallel inputs on the radio accessory connectors is provided to support Motorola mobile radios which do not allow external access to the serial bus (eg. GM300).

Functional Description Set-Up and Knocked-Down - the operation of the repeater while it is in either of these states depends upon the type of the repeater selected via the RSS. See Table 1-1 for an explanation. The Set-Up and Knock-Down commands may be received from the wireline and/or over the air, depending upon the type of repeater. - Page 10 Functional Description When in the Knocked-Down mode, the only transmission possible will be using wireline PTT commands, ie: No Repeater Function. Type 3 Repeater The repeater is programmed using the RSS to be permanently in Set-Up mode and may be Enabled by valid audio.

Functional Description 1.1.11 Repeater Hang Timer The Repeater De-key Timer (Hang Timer) extends the selected channel transmit time after the loss of the receiver signal, thus keeping the repeater accessible for the continuation, or return, of the call. If there is any valid receiver activity during the Repeater De-key time, the Repeater De-key Timer is reset. -

The TRC protocol consists of five distinct categories of individual tones; High Level Guard Tone Low Level Guard Tone... - Page 13 Functional Description Console Commands are a series of Function Tones (FT) originated by the control console in response to button presses by the console operator. The TRICK supports the following TRC commands originated by the control console(s); MONITOR: when the MONITOR command is received from the wireline, the off-hook signal to the RX radio is toggled.
- Page 14 When a wireline console such as the Motorola Centro Plus is used it is essential that the wireline parameters are set up correctly at both ends of the line. Incorrect configurations will cause 'falsing' of the commands from the Centro Plus to the TRICK, and incorrect decoding of selective calling from the TRICK to the Centro Plus.

Page 15: Receive Inhibit Functionality
♦ Measuring Method If a Motorola Centro Plus control console is connected to the TRICK, the line attenuation at 1 kHz and 3 kHz will be measured when the Centro Plus initiates line compensation. The tones are transmitted by the Centro Plus at a known level, allowing the TRICK to calculate the correct gain and equaliser values to compensate the wire line. -

Set-Up mode, pressing a second time will exit repeater mode (repeater Knocked-Down). a socket provided to allow a service microphone or handset, such as the Motorola HMN3141, to be connected directly to the TRICK. The microphone or handset may be used for monitoring traffic and communications with radio operators in the field. -

Functional Description SET-UP PROGRAM: RX TRC Figure 1-2 TRICK Front View the service microphone socket may also be used for personality programming and maintenance using a PC and a Radio Interface Box (RIB). When the RIB is connected to the TRICK, the programming destination may be selected using the PROGRAM button on the front panel and there is no need to connect the RIB directly to the radios. -

Functional Description Alarm Inputs If selected in the RSS, the TRICK will monitor two alarm inputs on its accessory connector. Please refer to the Service Manual, Chapter 1 for details of pin-outs and Technical Specification for the expected signal levels. Typically, when the TRICK is installed inside the ENLN4055 repeater/base station housing kit, the two alarm inputs are connected to the MAINS FAIL and BATTERY LOW alarm outputs on the power supply. -

Functional Description Wildcard Outputs The TRICK provides two “wildcard” outputs on its accessory connector for general purpose use. These wildcard outputs are activated when the appropriate commands are received from the wireline control console. The wildcard outputs may be used by the control console operator to manage equipment at the remote base station/repeater site. -
