Preventive Maintenance

Periodic visual inspection and cleaning are recommended.
Inspection
Check that the external surfaces of your radio are clean, and that all external controls and switches are
functional. It is not recommended to inspect the interior electronic circuitry.
Cleaning Procedures
The following procedures describe the recommended cleaning agents and the methods to clean the
external and internal surfaces of your radio.
External surfaces include the front cover, housing assembly, and battery. These surfaces should be
cleaned whenever a periodic visual inspection reveals the presence of smudges, grease, and/or grime.
CAUTION: Use all chemicals as prescribed by the manufacturer. Follow all safety precautions
as defined on the label or material safety data sheet. The effects of certain chemicals and their
vapors can have harmful results on certain plastics. Avoid using aerosol sprays, tuner cleaners,
and other chemicals.
NOTE:
Only clean internal surfaces when your radio is disassembled for service or repair.
Cleaning Radios Deployed to Chemical Environments
For radios exposed to environments with harmful chemicals to plastic, remove accessories and rinse
the radio under a faucet of running water. Dry the radio thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth.
If the radio is continuously deployed to harmful chemical environments, you must frequently clean and
thoroughly rinse the radio with clean water. Dry the radio thoroughly with a vacuum cleaner or lint-free
cloth. You are recommended to clean your radio at least twice per shift.
If the battery contact area of the radio is exposed to water, thoroughly dry and clean the radio battery
contacts before attaching a battery to the radio. Otherwise, the water can short circuit the radio.
If an accessory or a side connector cover is attached to the radio, check the interface after rinsing
with water to ensure that water does not penetrate the seal. Water left at this interface can reduce the
performance of accessories. When all parts are thoroughly dried, you can reattach the accessory or
side connector cover.
Shake the radio briskly to remove water that is trapped inside the speaker grille and microphone port.
Water reduces the audio quality of the radio.
After cleaning, test the talk/listen and button functions of your radio. This test confirms normal audio
performance and optimal tactile performance.
