7 Mounting the Server in the Rack

Planning

This chapter tells how to mount the HP NetServer LXr Pro8 in a rack. Before
doing so, however, you should plan the HP NetServer's location in the rack
relative to other rack components. Proper placement is vital both for safety and
operating efficiency. For more details, see the HP NetServer Rack Installation
Road Map and the HP NetServer Rack Assembly and Cabling Reference Guide.
The HP NetServer LXr Pro8 rack mount kit fits into HP 19-inch-wide EIA
(Electrical Industry Association) racks. Vertical space in these racks is measured
in standard EIA units. One EIA unit is 1.75 inches (44.45 mm). The rack mount
kit requires 10 EIA units of space. The kit includes the following:
screws and connectors
mounting rails
NOTE
Mounting the HP NetServer in its rack may or may not be the
final step in the installation procedure. If the HP NetServer is
completely configured by the vendor before delivery to the
customer, then mounting the HP NetServer in the rack may be
the last step. If the vendor configures the HP NetServer at the
customer's site, installation of the network operating system
and other software may occur after the HP NetServer is
mounted in the rack.
CAUTION
The satellite and base chassis combined weigh over 160
pounds. To avoid accidents, remove the satellite chassis from
the base chassis and remove the power supplies from the front
of the base chassis. Then mount the base chassis in the rack.
Replace the satellite and the power supplies only after the
base chassis is fixed in place.
