Advanced Copy License Registration

To use VSSHP, register an Advanced Copy license for the ETERNUS Disk storage system, and then
specify settings for the Advanced Copy function such as the copy table size . Use ETERNUS Web GUI
to register the Advanced Copy license and specify the settings for the Advanced Copy function. For
more details on Advanced Copy license registration and Advanced Copy settings, refer to the user
guide of the ETERNUS Disk storage system model.
Note that registration of the Advanced Copy license is not required for some models. Make sure to
check whether license registration is necessary before registering a license.
3.2

Shadow Copy Destination Disk Creation

When the requester starts backup, VSSHP automatically selects a disk that has the same capacity as
the source disk from the Shadow Copy destination disks registered in the backup disk pool
management function to create a Shadow Copy of the source data. Therefore, a Shadow Copy
destination disk must be created in advance.
VSSHP does not select a disk that has a different capacity from the source disk. For example, if the
capacity of the Shadow Copy destination disk is larger than the capacity of the source disk, VSSHP
will not select this disk.
The following examples show source disks to be backed up and Shadow Copy destinations to be
registered in the backup disk pool management function.
Example 1
When two source disks (2GB) are backed up with one backup job, two 2GB volumes are created as
Shadow Copy destinations and these volumes are registered in the backup disk pool management
function.
