dv/dt filter with Voltage Peak Limiter

6.3.1

Description

The dv/dt filter with VPL (Voltage Peak Limiter) consists of two components: The dv/dt
reactor and the voltage limiting network (Voltage Peak Limiter), which limits voltage peaks
and returns the energy to the DC link.
The dv/dt filters with Voltage Peak Limiter must be used for motors for which the voltage
strength of the insulation system is unknown or insufficient. Standard motors of the 1LA5,
1LA6 and 1LA8 series only require them at supply voltages > 500 V +10%.
The dv/dt filters with Voltage Peak Limiter limit the rate of voltage rise to values < 500 V/µs
and the typical voltage peaks at rated line voltage to the values below (with motor cable
lengths of < 150 m):
< 1000 V with U
< 1250 V with 660 V < U

Warning
When a dv/dt filter with Voltage Peak Limiter is used, the pulse frequency of the Power
Modules or Motor Module must not exceed 2.5 kHz or 4 kHz. Setting a higher pulse
frequency could cause irreparable damage to the dv/dt filter.
