18.3

Connections

18.3.1 Introduction
This section gives an overview of typical system
connections using the network splitter:
Looping the trunk through (see section 18.3.2).
Creating tap-offs (see section 18.3.2).
Connecting an external power supply (see
section 18.3.3).
Note
It is not possible to create a closed loop using a
network splitter.
18.3.2 Connecting the trunk line and
creating tap-offs
See figure 18.4 for information about connecting the
trunk line and the tap-offs to the network splitter.

Note
If the distance between two units is less than
100 m, a network splitter can be used in the
middle to overcome the use of fiber interfaces.
Use only the trunk sockets in this case.

18.3.3 Connecting a power supply
The network splitter is delivered with a separate Kycon
KPP-4P connector to connect the external power supply
to the network splitter.
Note
The external power supply can only feed the
tap-offs and not the main network branch.
The Kycon KPP-4P connector has four pins (see
figure 18.5):
