Problem
Video Problems
The built-in display is blank when you turn on
your notebook.
T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g
Possible Cause
1. Something is pushing on the Closed Cover
switch. (See Figure 1-7 on page 5.)
2. The notebook is set for an external
monitor only.
3. The angle of the display and the brightness
settings are not adequate for your
lighting conditions.
4. The power management timeouts may be set
for very short intervals and you failed to
notice the display come on and go off again.

Possible Solution
1. Clear the Closed Cover switch.
2. Pressing F10 while holding down the Fn key
allows you to change your selection of where
to send your display video. Each time you
press the combination of keys you will step
to the next choice. The choices, in order, are:
built-in LCD only, external CRT only, both
LCD and CRT, or video output (NTSC/
PAL or S-Video).
3. Move the display and the brightness control
until you have adequate visibility.
4 . Press any key or move the poi n ter, i f this
doe s n't work press the Su s pen d / Re sume
but ton . (The display may be shut of f by Idle
m ode ,S t a n d by mode , Auto Su s pen d , or
Vi deo Ti m eo ut . )
5. Power On Self Test (POST) has detected a
failure which does not allow the display to
operate. Contact your support representative.
