AUTO FOCUS

The Auto Focus system takes care of keeping the
subject in focus so that you can concentrate on
creating great videos. Just keep the subject rough
ly in the center of the viewfinder, and the cam
corder wi l l continuously adjust the focus for the
sharpest picture.
AUTO MACRO
Focus will be adjusted automatically t o within 1 Omm of
the lens when the zoom lens is being used, making
possible macro shooting of flower petals without leaving
Auto Focus mode. If you begin to zoom in on a subject
within 1 . 5m of the lens, the zoom-in may automatically
change to a zoom-out until the camcorder can focus on
the subject.
mml
• To shoot in macro mode, first press the W (wide-angle)
side of the power zoom button; the camcorder will focus
more quickly.
• The wide-angle lens is not equipped with the macro
function. Therefore, it is not possible to focus on sub
jects in front of the lens.
The Auto Focus may not be able to focus on the
subject in ·the situations shown on the left. Manually
focus the lens to obtain the correct focus. (See page
34.)
• If the subject has no distinct features, the autofocus
may not work well. You can help it by zooming out or
choosing a more distinct subject. You can also focus
manually.
• If the su bject has poor contrast, the camcorder may
automatically zoom out.
• You may hear a small whirring sound while the cam
corder i s focusing. This i s not a malfunction. I t is just a
small electric motor moving the lens to find the best
focus.
• Keep the lens clean to prevent focusing problems.
Clean off dirt with lens cleaning fluid and a lens tissue or
cloth. If condensation fogs the lens, dry it off with a lens
tissue or cloth, or wait until the condensation evapo
rates.
• If you pan quickly from a nearby subject to a distant
one, zoom very rapidly, or otherwise cause the subject
to change suddenly, it may go out of focus for a few
seconds.
