3.6 Utility Gas Supply Installation

3.6
Utility Gas Supply Installation
This section describes the utility gas supply installation requirements for the analyzer.
● Carrier Supply Gas
● Calibration Standard
● Detector Fuel Supply
● Compressed Air Supply
See the Application Drawing Package, Block Diagram Utility Connections sheet for analyzer
requirements.
Observe all safety codes and regulations
Ensure that personnel, electrical, and local and national codes are observed for storage, use,
and handling of compressed and liquefied gasses in portable cylinders. Failure to properly
observe codes may lead to property destruction, serious injury or death.
3.6.1

Air Supply

Air of instrument quality (clean, dry, and oil-free) is required to ensure trouble-free operation.
Applicable codes require that the compressor intake be located in a non-hazardous area, and
the suction be designed to prevent leaks which might permit hazardous gases or vapors to be
drawn into the compressor. The air must contain no more than trace amounts of any flammable
gas or vapor. See Technical Specifications at the beginning of this manual for requirements for
the air supply.
Risk of suffocation
If a purge gas other than air is used, precautions must be taken to monitor and prevent oxygen
depletion from occurring in the area. This is also needed when a backup purge gas supply
other than air is used. Depletion of oxygen can cause serious injury or death to personnel in
the area.
3.6.1.1

Minimum Air Pressure

The minimum air pressure required for an analyzer depends upon the analyzer's application.
For the specific air pressure requirements for your analyzer see the Application Drawing
Package, the Block Diagram Utility sheet.
