Replacing the M.2 storage drive
Note: The M.2 storage drive might come in two sizes, a smaller size as shown on the left side and a larger
size on the right side as shown in the figures in this section. Refer to the figure that matches your M.2
storage drive when reading this section. If your computer comes with the smaller M.2 storage drive, you will
not be able to replace it with a larger M.2 storage drive.
To replace the M.2 storage drive, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 112.
3. Locate the M.2 storage drive. See "Computer components" on page 31.
4. Remove any parts that might prevent your access to the M.2 storage drive. Depending on your
computer model, you might need to remove the heat sink or the storage drive bracket. See "Replacing
the heat sink" on page 116 or "Replacing the 2.5-inch storage drive (for 10G8, 10G9, 10GA, 10GB,
