Operating Tips

CAUTION
Digging under the stabilizer arms, digging under
the traction unit, or digging in soft and/or wet
ground may disturb the stability of the ground
beneath the machine, which could result in a
tip-over accident.
• Do not use the backhoe to dig under the
stabilizer arms or under the traction unit.
• Do not dig in soft or wet soil conditions.
CAUTION
Placing a large, heavy spoil pile too close the edge
of the excavation could cause a cave-in, resulting
in possible personal injury and damage to the
equipment.
Do not place the spoil pile too close to the
excavation.
Lower the bucket to the ground, then curl the bucket
until the teeth are flat on the ground, retract the dipper,
drag the bucket through the trench until it the bucket
about half full. Then curl the bucket as you crowd it in
until the bucket is completely full; raise the bucket, swing

the boom, and dump the bucket in the spoil area on the
high side (if there is one) of the trench or excavation.
Carefully plan where you will deposit the spoil that you
remove from the excavation. The location of the spoil
pile will depend on what type of excavation you are

conducting.
To keep the height of the spoil pile low, move the full
bucket toward the spoil pile, lower the bucket into the
top of the pile, and dump the contents and crowd out at
the same time. As the bucket dumps, the bottom of the
bucket will push the top of the pile off and behind, safely
away from the excavation.
When you are transporting the machine with an attached
backhoe or when you are using the backfill blade, lock
the boom and swing of the backhoe to prevent it from
moving.
Whenever you load the machine with the backhoe onto a
trailer, release the boom lock, lower the backhoe bucket
onto the floor bed of the trailer, shut the engine off, and
remove the key.
