Oracle replication (backup) and restore (recovery) overview

The replication manager's optional Oracle-integration features simplify and automate replication (backup)
and restore (recovery) procedures for Oracle resources.
In addition, these features provide the ability to mount copies on a separate host for batch processing,
data mining, application testing, data warehousing, or other processes that need an independent copy of
an Oracle database.
Online (hot) backups
The replication manager puts Oracle resources in the online (hot) backup mode for only a few seconds
while the virtual disks comprising the Oracle resources are backed up. This greatly improves an Oracle
server's overall performance, and I/O, compared to normal online backups.
Information about each backup is maintained in repositories and is displayed in the GUI. See
and

You can use the GUI to create backups on demand. See
You can also create backups by running a job on-demand or at scheduled times. See

Recoveries and migrations
The replication manager can recover Oracle resources by presenting and dynamically mounting backups
of virtual disks on the original server.
The replication manager can also present and dynamically mount backups of virtual disks on different
servers than the original (migration). This allows other operations, such as tape backups or data
mining, to be performed on a different host, which further improves the original Oracle server's overall
performance by eliminating loads due to other applications and operations.
You can use the GUI to perform recoveries and migrations on-demand. See

Considerations
All relevant Oracle resources must be located on supported HP storage arrays that are available
to the replication manager. See
Each array must have an HP application-integration license for Oracle. See
Oracle-integration licenses
The Oracle applications must be located on servers that are running replication manager host
agents.
For support details, see the HP StorageWorks EVA software compatibility reference.
