Cabling Preparation for the HP NetServer LH 4r

Assess How Components Will Be Connected to the Server

You may find the following steps helpful before you begin cabling.
Review the layout of the rack installation generated with HP's rack
configuration tools. (See Step 2 in Chapter 1 for more information.)
Consider the cabling guidelines discussed in Chapter 3, in the section
"Data Cabling Principles Used in Determining Rack Locations. "

Attach Cable Guide to Rack Column

Using the instructions included, attach the cable guide(s) to the rack column.
You may position them horizontally between the rack columns or vertically along
the outside edge of the column. (Do not, however, mount them horizontally
behind units listed in Table 2-2.
See Figure 2-7 for an illustration of the rear of the rack after cable guides have
been installed. Newer rack models have threaded inserts on the outside edges of
the vertical columns for use in mounting cable guides. When mounting PDUs on
older rack models or horizontally mounting them in any rack, use rack nuts to
secure them in place.
NOTE
Vertically mounted cable guides are always mounted on the
same side at the rear of the rack as the door hinge hardware.
Door hinges are shipped on the left side of the rack. Users may
choose to exchange hinge hardware so doors open oppositely.
If so, cable guides should be repositioned on the same side as
the rear door hinge.

Mount Power Distribution Units

Plan the location of the Power Distribution Unit or Units (PDU) by reference to
amperage, power, and the number of receptacles. See Chapter 3, the section titled
"Wide-Ranging PDU Configurations," particularly Table 3-2.
