Adjusting the sound
Muting the sound
Press MUTE to temporarily reduce (1/2 MUTE) or turn off (MUTE)
the sound. While the sound is off, the screen will display "1/2
MUTE" or "MUTE" in the lower right comer. Each time you press
MUTE, the mute mode will chmage in the following order:
[-" Normal ---"1/2 MUTE ---"MUTE --1
When you press MUTE, the closed caption feature is automatic_ly
activated. "lb deactivate this feature, press MUTE again. This feature
works only when the dosed caption mode is set to OFE See "Using
the closed caption feature" on page 46 for more information.
Selecting stereo/SAP broadcasts
The multi-channel TV sound (MTS) feature allows you to listen to
high-fidelity stereo sound while watching "I_V.MTS can also transmit
a second audio program (SAP) containing a second language, music,
or other attdio inR)rmation (when provided by individu_ stations).
When the "I_Vreceives a stereo or SAP broadcast, the word STEREO
or SAP appeas on-screen every time the "I_Vis turned on, the channel
is changed, or the RECALL button is pressed.
The MTS feature is not available when the "I_Vis in VIDEO mode.
"lb listen to stereo sound:
1. Press MENU, and then press "9 or _ until the AUDIO menu
appears.
2. Press A or • to highlight MTS.
3. Press "9 or _ to highlight STEREO.

_(2mcan leave your TV in STEREO mode because it will
automatically output the type of sound being broadcast (stereo or
monalral). The word "STEREO" or "SAP" displays in yellow in
the menu when the "I_Vreceives the signal.
If the stereo sound is noisy, select MONO to reduce the noise.
"lb listen to SAP (if available):
1. Press MENU, and then press "9 or _ until the AUDIO menu
appears.
2. Press A or • to highlight MTS.
3. Press "< or b >to highlight SAP. You will hear the station's second
audio program (if available) from the speakers, while vicxving the
origin_ program's picture (see note at right).

Note :
A second audio program CSAP)can be heard
only on those TVstations that offer it.
For example, a station might broadcast music
as a second audio program. If you have SAP
on, you will see the current program on the
screen but hear music instead of the
program's normal audio.
However, if you have SAP on, and the station
you are watchingis not currendy
broadcasting a second audio program, you
will see the picture but not hear any sound. If
thishappens, put the TVin STEREOmode so
you can hear the station's normal audio.
