APPENDIX B SETUP PROCEDURE WHEN BUILDING A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT (FOR Windows Server® 2008 R2 ONLY)
(7) Authentication of Windows license
The guest OS (Windows Server® 2008 R2, Standard) installed on the virtual machine has a
technology that prevents illegal copy called product activation. Before the user can use
Windows Server® 2008 R2, Standard, the user must obtain license authentication from
Microsoft. License authentication can be provided over the phone or the Internet. Perform
either procedure.
(a) License authentication over the phone
1.
If you have not logged on with the administrator account of the computer, log on with
the administrator account.

Click Start and then Control Panel.
3.
Click System and Security and then System.
4.
In the Windows activation section, click 3 days until automatic activation. Activate
Windows now. (The underlined statement changes depending on the status of
license.)
5.
Click Show me other ways to activate.
