4.
The USB cable between the computer and the Dispenser must be fully connected. Close the
software, turn off the Dispenser, remove the USB cable at both ends and reconnect firmly.
Restart the Dispenser and then the software. It is worthwhile to try a different USB port on the
computer if communication cannot be established. USB cables themselves are rarely at fault.

6-1-3 Unable to home stage

Occasionally, the error message ―Unable to home stage‖ may occur upon initiating the HP D300
Digital Dispenser software. This may be due to the stage sensors exceeding their limits. If this
message occurs upon startup, close the software and power down the dispenser using the rocker
switch on the right rear of the dispenser as shown in
Once the power is off, it is easy to move the stage by holding the destination plate holder (do not
push it with the spring clips, they could break), and moving the stage near the center of its x,y
travel. Then power the dispenser back on and restart the software. If this still results in an ―Unable
to home stage‖ message, contact your Tecan Service Help Desk. The phone number can be found
at http://www.tecan.com/customersupport.

6-1-4 Check the A1 location

If the dispenser has been treated roughly, during shipment or movement to a new location, the
position of the stage assembly relative to the position of the DispenseHead Cassette may change.
When you would like to test the dispenser to make sure the alignment is correct, or if you notice
poor CVs or fluids dispensed on the side walls or ribs of the destination plate, follow the following
procedure to test the alignment and modify it if needed. Please use this section only if you are
comfortable with resetting computer parameters for instruments such as the HP D300 Digital
Dispenser. If you are unsure about these procedures at any point, call your Tecan Service Help
Desk for assistance. The phone number can be found at http://www.tecan.com/customersupport.
1.
Load the 384 Four Corners Centration configuration by clicking File and Load Plate
Configuration, browsing to the C:\Program Files\HP-D300\Configs directory and then
selecting 384_Four_Corners_Config.xls.
2.
Click the GO button and when prompted, place a 384 well plate with clear tape over the four
corner wells onto the destination plate holder. Use pure DMSO or add some colorant to DMSO
to use as the dispense fluid.
3.
When the fluid is dispensed in the four corners and the plate moves back to plate load position,
examine the fluid location relative to the center of the four corner wells.
4.
If the fluid in any one corner is off by more than 1.0 mm in a different direction than the other
corners, the stage assembly is not square and you need to contact your Tecan Service Help
Desk. The phone number can be found at http://www.tecan.com/customersupport. If the
fluids in all four corners are offset in the same direction, continue following the
procedure

6-1-5 A1 alignment procedure

1.
If the A1 position is not correct, make a little picture as shown in
the drop landed relative to the well outline. This will help you to remember which direction the
drop landed relative to the center of the well.
