The following criteria must be observed when selecting and
dimensioning a cabinet:
• • Ambient conditions at the point of installation of the cabinet
• • Clearances for power supplies and subracks
• • Total power dissipation of components in the cabinet
The ambient conditions at the point of installation of the cabinet
(temperature, humidity, dust, effects of chemicals) govern the required
degree of protection of the cabinet (IP XX) as shown in the following
figure. Further information on types of protection can be found in
IEC 529.
