Configuration of an IP Address Block for IEC 60870-5-101, IEC

60870-5-104 Conversion

During the operation of the IEC 60870-5-101 / IEC 60870-5-104 conversion, link addresses
(IEC 60870-5-101) are translated to IP addresses (IEC 60870-5-104). For each IEC 60870-5-101
connection an individual IP address can be assigned to the IEC 60870-5-104 side. To get the
required number of IP addresses the EDS500 devices have the option to reserve a whole
block of IP addresses instead of only one. For this a second parameter with IP address is
added that marks the included end of the block. When setting the block, take care that it is
included completely in the subnet set by the subnet mask. Only the first IP address has to be
considered a full-fledged one. All the following ones are especially for the IEC 60870-5-101 /
IEC 60870-5-104 conversion.

Quality of Service

If at a network node the transmission rate of an interface is not sufficient to transport the
occurring traffic then, either, Ethernet frames have to be discarded or the incoming frames
have to be slowed down with the help of flow control. Using flow control can avoid that
