Symptom
Recording is not initiated w hen the REC/
ARM (¶) key is pressed.
Noise level is high.
Sound is vibrating.
Playback or recording starts immediately
w hen the pow er is sw itched ON.
With some tapes, a squeaky noise is produced w hen the tape is stopped automatically. This is due to the tape protection function, and not

Cause
÷ The protection tab on the cassette has been
broken.
÷ The cassette holder is not closed completely.
÷ The recording level is set to the minimum
position.
÷ The TAPE input selector is selected on the
amplifier.
÷ Tape has been fully w ound to a reel.
÷ The head is magnetized.
÷ External noise is induced.
÷ The system assembly position is w rong.
÷ The recording level w as too low .
÷ A tape recorded w ith Dolby NR ON is being
played w ith Dolby NR OFF.
÷ The capstans or pinch rollers are dirty.
÷ Tape is irregularly w ound.
÷ The TIM ER sw itch is set to PLAY or REC.
In case of difficulty
CT-2 0 5 0 / 2 0 3 / KXF-W 6 0 1 0 / W 4 0 1 0 (En/ M )
Remedy
÷ Use a cassette w ith unbroken tab or close the
hole.
÷ Close the cassette holder completely.
÷ Adjust the recording level referring to "How
to record" .
÷ Press the input selector key of the source
to be recorded.
÷ Change the tape transport direction of deck
or insert the tape inversely.
÷ Demagnetize the head referring to "Clean-
ing the head section" .
÷ Install the system apart from other electrical
appliances and TV set.
÷ Change the arrangement or the position of the
equipment.
÷ Adjust the recording level referring to "How
to record" .
÷ Set the DOLBY NR key to B or C.
÷ Clean the capstans and pinch rollers.
÷ Wind the tape regularly by fast forw arding,
rew inding or playing it fully from one reel to
another.
÷ Set the TIM ER sw itch to OFF unless timer
playback or timer recording is required.
