Maintenance

Contents of this chapter

This chapter contains information for the maintenance and decommissioning of the safety
function.

Safety circuit maintenance

After the safety function is validated, it must be maintained by replacing the main
contactor/breaker before the end of its specified lifetime.
If you change the wiring or a component after the start-up, or restore parameters to their
factory default values:
• Use only ABB-approved spare parts.
• Register the change to the change log for the safety circuit.
• If parameters were restored to the factory default values: Set the parameters related to
the safety function.
• Do the validation test of the safety function.
• Document the tests and store the report into the logbook of the machine.

Proof test

To do a proof test, activate the safety function to make sure that it operates correctly. For
guidelines, refer to the validation test procedure.

Proof test interval

It is a good practice to do a periodic proof test to ensure the correct operation of the safety
function. In high demand mode of operation, the maximum proof test interval is 10 years.
In low demand mode of operation, the maximum proof test interval is 1 year.
