Chapter 2 Preparations

1.5.1 Adding Order and Precautions

Adding order depends on the number of CPUs installed.
1-CPU configuration:
Install DIMMs starting from the smallest DIMM slot number.
2-CPU configuration:
Alternately install DIMMs starting from the smallest DIMM slot number of each CPU.
Install DIMM one by one.
Install DIMMs starting from the largest capacity and from the smallest slot number.
Registered DIMMs and Unbuffered DIMMs cannot be mixedly installed. If installed mixedly, the CPU blade
will fail to operate correctly.
If the CPU blade does not have CPU#2 installed, DIMM slots CPU2_DIMM1 to CPU2_DIMM6 are
unavailable.
To run the system in single-unit SATA HDD configuration or RAID configuration using onboard RAID
Controller, the upper part of DIMM slot is used to connect internal HDD cable. Pay attention not to pinch the
cable when installing/removing a DIMM to/from CPU_DIMM1 slot. The pinched cable may cause
malfunction of the server.

1.5.2 Installation

Install the DIMM on the CPU blade according to the following procedure:
1.
DIMM installation order in 1-CPU configuration differs from that in 2-CPU configuration.
<In 1-CPU configuration>
Remove the top cover and air duct according to Chapter 2 (1.3.1 Removal of top cover and 1.3.2
Removal of air duct).
If Mezzanine Card (Type 2) for blade is installed, remove it according to Chapter 2 (1.6.3 Removal).
<In 2-CPU configuration>
Remove the top cover, air duct, and HSBP according to Chapter 2 (1.3.1 Removal of top cover, 1.3.2
Removal of air duct, and 1.3.3 Removal of HSBP bracket ).
If Mezzanine Card (Type 2) for blade is installed, remove it according to Chapter 2 (1.6.3 Removal).
